Leftist commentators and Democrats appear to be celebrating a piece of legislation offered by Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican, that would codify a nationwide abortion ban into federal law.

Graham, on Tuesday, held a press conference to announce legislation imposing a federal ban on most abortions past 15 weeks. The proposal comes less than three months after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe. v. Wade, the 1973 decision legalizing the procedure throughout the country, and sent the issue back to states to decide for themselves.

After agreeing that “abortion is a contentious issue,” Graham said: “We will introduce legislation…to get America in a position at the federal level I think is fairly consistent with the rest of the world.”

“I look forward to the debate, I look forward to the vote. If we take back the House and Senate, I can assure you we’ll have a vote on our bill. If the Democrats are in charge, I don’t know if we’ll ever have a vote on our bill,” he added.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the administration considers Graham’s measure as extreme.

“Today, Senator Graham introduced a national ban on abortion which would strip away women’s rights in all 50 states. This bill is wildly out of step with what Americans believe,” she said.

“While President Biden and Vice President Harris are focused on the historic passage of the Inflation Reduction Act to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, health care, and energy – and to take unprecedented action to address climate change – Republicans in Congress are focused on taking rights away from millions of women. The President and Vice President are fighting for progress, while Republicans are fighting to take us back,” she added.

In fact, however, as the Media Research Center pointed out, most Americans are against “infanticide.”

Still, Democrats and far-left commentators essentially thanked Graham for handing the party a “gift” ahead of the crucial November midterm elections.
