Fox News contributor and former Democrat Rep. Harold Ford Jr. has given credit to President-elect Donald Trump for “dominating” the political landscape.

“Harold, the meetings, reportedly, with Canadian officials, two in particular, the Canadian foreign minister and the finance minister, said to be at Mar-a-Lago for meetings, and this comes, obviously, after the dinner where you had Justin Trudeau, the prime minister, come down. That started all of this stuff about the 51st state, if they don’t change their, how they deal with money and the trade deficit. In fact, he, the president-elect, saying maybe Wayne Gretzky, the great one, should run for prime minister and become the governor of the 51st state of Canada,” Fox News host Bret Baier said.

“All this back and forth, it seems like a lot of it’s in jest, but it is getting the message across, because clearly Canadian officials are coming down here to talk business,” he added, to which the former Democrat representative agreed.

“I think the president doing this is a long, comes in a long tradition of American presidents looking to meet and seeking and then having those meetings with the leading business leaders in our country. And then asking those leaders to invest in our country. I think the president is finding some challenge and some friction, even in his own party, as to how he deals with these great leaders and whether or not they are fully in favor of all the things the president campaigned on, including immigration and border security,” Ford began.

“But I give President Trump a lot of credit. President Biden is kind of off the scene here. President Trump is dominating things, and he is bringing the most successful, the wealthiest people to, Americans that is, to Mar-a-Lago,” he said.

“And I hope as he brings these foreign leaders that he understands, and I’m sure he does, that these are not real estate projects. These are serious people, wealthy people, successful people, many of them elected leaders,” Ford continued.

“And I think the American people, including me, are giving him the benefit of the doubt as he tries to make our border more safe and secure, and as he tries to ensure that prices come down for everything from groceries to insurance, and obviously gas is coming down a little bit now, but to everything that we buy. So he will continue to get the benefit of the doubt, the president, and I think the country will be looking to see who shows up for New Year’s Eve,” he said.
