Former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will no longer receive Secret Service protection after President Donald Trump ordered an early termination of his security detail, the agency confirmed Monday. The protection was originally set to continue until mid-July under an extension granted by former President Joe Biden.
Mayorkas, who served in Biden’s administration, was not automatically entitled to Secret Service protection after leaving office in January. However, Biden extended his security detail for six months. Trump’s decision cut that extension short, reports the Washington Post.
The president also ended Secret Service protection for Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden, the children of the former president. Their security details officially ended Monday, one week after Trump announced the decision on Truth Social.
“Former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Mr. Hunter and Ms. Ashley Biden and their families are no longer protectees of the United States Secret Service,” agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.
Internal records show the Secret Service was informed of the decision on Friday.
