Texas Man Arrested for Allegedly Vandalizing Multiple Teslas

A man in Texas has been arrested after allegedly damaging several Tesla vehicles in Texarkana.

The Texarkana Police Department announced on Facebook that 33-year-old Demarqeyun Cox was taken into custody for reportedly ramming a “mini four-wheeler” into multiple Teslas. Authorities are still investigating how many of the reported vandalism cases may be connected to him, reports Fox.

Cox is currently charged with felony criminal mischief and failure to identify. He is being held on a $105,000 bond, according to KETK-TV, a local NBC affiliate.

Texarkana Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Vaughn told Fox News Digital that Cox has been linked to multiple vandalism incidents, but they are being handled as one charge because it is considered “one criminal episode.”

“Basically, you know, several incidents that happened within a very short period of time there. So, it’s one charge which, you know, enhances the charge essentially to a felony because each of those individually increases cumulatively, rather increases the dollar amount of the damage there. So, you know that that gets it to the felony level [of] about two or three,” Vaughn said.

In addition to ramming Teslas, police say Cox allegedly scratched the word “Elon” onto two of the vehicles. It remains unclear whether the attack was politically motivated.

Video footage from a Tesla parked outside a Chinese buffet reportedly caught Cox in the act. Tesla’s “Sentry Mode” security system records activity around the vehicle, allowing authorities to review the incident.

“Think of Sentry Mode as an intelligent vehicle security system that alerts you when it detects possible threats nearby,” states the Tesla Model 3 owner’s manual.

After Cox was arrested, police received another report of a damaged Tesla.

Vandalism against Tesla vehicles has been on the rise in recent months, coinciding with protests against CEO Elon Musk’s ties to the Trump administration. Attacks have occurred not just in the U.S. but in Canada as well.

The Trump administration has labeled the rise in Tesla vandalism as “domestic terrorism” and is taking action against those responsible. The Department of Justice has charged three suspects in connection with what it called “the violent destruction of Tesla properties.” These suspects face a minimum of five years in prison, with potential sentences of up to 20 years.

Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a warning: “The days of committing crimes without consequence have ended. Let this be a warning: if you join this wave of domestic terrorism against Tesla properties, the Department of Justice will put you behind bars.”

When asked whether Cox’s case could be taken up by the DOJ, Vaughn said, “If they would want to pursue it, I’m sure that the department would share the information with them.”
