Investor Kevin O’Leary, the star of the television show “Shark Tank” said it is time for President-elect Donald Trump to “release the hounds” to cut back on government spending.
He spoke to Fox News host John Roberts where he said he is excited to see Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the Department of Government Efficiency “go nuts” to cut back on federal spending.
“Back in 2010, the Simpson-Bowles Commission proved it is not hard to find waste, fraud, abuse, and places to cut spending. What is hard is getting Congress to go through with it. Will it be any different this time around?” Roberts asked.
“Yes, it will be different. What Simpson-Bowles didn’t have at that time was the megaphone Elon Musk has. Remember, politicians need to raise money, and these days they do it using social media. What Elon has — people keep forgetting — they say he doesn’t have a legislative mandate here; I say Musk has better than that. He has X,” O’Leary responded.
“What happens is, you are in some state somewhere, and you own a project worth nothing, and you are spending $2 billion. He just will shame you out. He will start naming to all of your voters exactly what you have done wrong and what you’re not doing to fix it,” the “Shark Tank” star said.
“I love the concept of squeezing heads to stop waste. All he has to do is turn on the machine. It will be very contentious. I have said it multiple times about the mandate. The power he has is not to be underestimated. If you can get to the voter of that governor or that senator that’s wasting money, in his eyes, and he can make a good case on X, you will cause a lot of damage in that constituency. And I love this idea. It is a negotiation. That’s what it is. If you don’t fix this, I’ll call you out,” he added.
