A second illegal immigrant who broke out of a Colorado detention center during a power outage last month has been caught, officials said Tuesday, Fox reports.
Geilond Vido-Romero, 24, was found riding a bus in Denver. According to the U.S. Marshals Service, he is suspected of being involved with the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang.
Vido-Romero was originally arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in February. Authorities say he was suspected of shoplifting and resisting arrest before being taken into custody.
He and another detainee, Joel Jose Gonzalez-Gonzalez, 32, allegedly escaped from the Denver Contract Detention Facility in Aurora on March 18 during a power outage. Officers noticed they were gone during a routine 2 p.m. headcount.
Mohamed Bennani, Assistant Facility Director, informed Aurora Police that power at the facility went out around 9:30 p.m., causing the back doors to open to the soccer field.
Gonzalez-Gonzalez was found just three days later in Adams County, where he had been jailed before.
Documents show that Vido-Romero had lived in a now-closed apartment complex in Aurora. That same complex gained attention last year when a video surfaced showing armed Tren de Aragua members entering an apartment. The video caught the attention of President Donald Trump during his campaign.
Vido-Romero’s capture ends a weeks-long search after his escape from the detention center. Officials have not yet released details on how he was able to travel undetected before being caught on the bus.
