A man in the U.S. illegally has been charged with the murder of a Georgia woman in what authorities are calling a “gruesome attack.”
Police in Cobb County, Georgia, have identified 52-year-old Camillia Williams’ suspected killer as Hector David Sagastume-Rivas. Williams’ body was discovered in Marietta on March 13. A few days later, Sagastume-Rivas was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with her death, reports WHAM.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem confirmed that Sagastume-Rivas was illegally present in the U.S. and blamed the Biden administration for allowing him to remain in the country. “David Hector Rivas-Sagastume, an illegal alien released by the Biden administration, has been charged with killing Camilia Williams, a mother of five and a grandmother in a gruesome attack,” Noem posted on X. “This illegal alien should have never been in our country in the first place. President Trump and I are putting the safety of Americans FIRST.”
Sagastume-Rivas was reportedly indicted last week, facing additional charges. A newly unsealed indictment on Friday states that Williams’ body was dumped in a bush. Court documents, as reported by CNN, describe how Williams was placed in a chokehold until she lost consciousness. The indictment alleges Sagastume-Rivas then put his full body weight on her neck, which led to her death.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Sagastume-Rivas illegally entered the U.S. from Honduras on March 17, 2021, and was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol. He was ordered to be deported on July 11, 2023, but failed to appear for his hearing.
On Friday, Sagastume-Rivas was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, rape, aggravated sexual battery, and necrophilia.
Local news outlets reported that Williams’ family had been worried about her safety. She had expressed fear about a man she said was following her. Her brother, Arsene Williams, told WSB, “She called the guy a weirdo and, from what I understand, he waited until he caught her alone and did what he did.”
The case has intensified debates over illegal immigration and crime, with critics of the Biden administration pointing to failures in enforcing deportation orders.
