The House Oversight Committee has uncovered, through a whistleblower, confirmed ties between Democratic vice-presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Governor Walz has come under increasing scrutiny over his connections to China and perceived sympathies toward socialist policies in the country. Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) addressed these concerns in a letter to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Comer noted that, as part of a broader investigation into the CCP’s influence on U.S. government operations, “The Committee has recently received whistleblower disclosures informing the Committee of serious concern among Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel regarding a longstanding connection between the CCP and Minnesota Governor Timothy James Walz.”
The whistleblower provided information about a non-classified Microsoft Teams group chat among DHS employees, titled “NST NFT Bi-Weekly Sync,” which contained details about Walz that are now under investigation by the committee.
In the letter, the committee issued a subpoena for DHS to produce documents and communications related to Walz’s connection with the CCP, stating that the records are critical to understanding the extent of the CCP’s political influence in the United States.
“The information required of DHS by the Committee’s subpoena will inform the Committee’s understanding of how successful the CCP has been in waging political warfare in and against the United States, how effectively federal agencies are addressing the communist regime’s campaign, and what reforms are necessary to counter this threat,” Comer wrote, directly tying Governor Walz to concerns about CCP infiltration within various sectors of government.
