VP Harris Dodges Questions on Campaign's TikTok Use Amid National Security Concerns

Vice President Harris evaded hard questions on Sunday regarding the use of TikTok by her campaign, despite concerns raised by both herself and President Biden over the app’s national security implications as it is owned by a Chinese company.

When asked by ABC’s Rachel Scott about the campaign’s presence on TikTok given these concerns, Harris responded, “So, let’s start with this: We do not intend to ban TikTok.” She acknowledged the national security worries associated with the app’s owner but highlighted its utility as an income generator and a platform for sharing information.

“We have concerns about the national security implications of the owner of TikTok,” Harris continued, emphasizing that they understand its purpose and popularity among users.

Scott pressed Harris on whether her campaign should remain on TikTok considering these security implications. Harris replied, “Well, we’ll address that when we come to it,” reiterating the administration’s focus on the app’s owner and the overall enjoyment it brings to many.

Despite expressing concerns, both Harris and Biden have featured in several TikTok videos. President Biden has indicated willingness to sign a bipartisan bill aimed at addressing these concerns, pending its passage in the House.

During the interview, Scott also inquired about the administration’s stance on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s potential military operation in Rafah. Harris stressed that any major military action there would be a “huge mistake,” emphasizing the lack of options for those affected.

“We’re going to take it one step at a time,” Harris said when asked about potential consequences for Netanyahu’s actions. When pressed on whether the US would impose consequences, Harris replied, “I am ruling out nothing.”
