Trump Promises to Make America Successful Again: "Our Ultimate Retribution Is Success"

Former President Donald Trump, the leading candidate for the GOP, emphasized the theme of retribution during an Iowa townhall on Fox News, responding to questions about the focus of a potential second term.

Fox News hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum queried Trump about his discussions on retribution at rallies and the balance between looking backward and forward in a second term.

Trump defended the notion of retribution, citing alleged hoaxes such as the Russia investigation, Twitterhoax, and intelligence agents hoaxes. He argued that many would consider seeking retribution in such cases as normal. However, Trump stated that he wouldn’t have time for retribution in his second term, emphasizing the goal of making the country successful again, with success serving as the ultimate retribution.

During a previous CPAC speech in March 2023, Trump declared himself as the people’s retribution, promising to end the influence of certain forces and unelected bureaucrats. He said that returning power to the people and freeing the nation from alleged restrictions on freedom were essential.

While Trump faced criticism from the corporate press for his use of the term “retribution,” he positioned himself as a defender against perceived political prosecution, the weaponization of the justice system, and government forces restricting the freedoms of law-abiding citizens while upholding freedom for criminals. Supporters saw Trump as the fighter who would protect them against perceived injustices and government overreach.

In both instances, Trump portrayed retribution as a response to what he and his supporters viewed as attacks on the democratic process and individual freedoms, promising to restore power to the people and make the nation successful once again.
