Trump Lawyers File Motions for New Trial In E. Jean Carroll Case

In response to the recent verdict in the E. Jean Carroll defamation trial, former President Trump’s legal team has taken decisive action, filing motions for both judgment in Trump’s favor and a new trial.

The trial concluded last month with a federal jury ordering Trump to pay more than $83 million in damages to Carroll after she accused him of raping her in the 1990s. Trump’s lawyers argue that Carroll failed to demonstrate that Trump’s statements caused her harm, stating, “It is readily apparent that the jury’s findings were based on ‘confusion, speculation or prejudice’ as opposed to the ‘evidence presented at trial,” Fox News reports.

Furthermore, Trump’s legal team contends that the court unfairly restricted Trump’s testimony, potentially influencing the jury’s verdict. They assert that Trump’s statements regarding Carroll were made to “defend his reputation, protect his family, and defend his Presidency.”

Trump himself has vehemently denied Carroll’s allegations and expressed his disagreement with the verdict, posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, “Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party.”

The jury’s decision, which awarded Carroll $83.3 million in damages, including compensatory and punitive damages, was based on Trump’s statements made while he was in the White House in June 2019. Despite the verdict, Trump maintains his innocence and vows to challenge the outcome through legal avenues.

As the legal battle continues, Trump remains resolute in defending himself against the allegations, denouncing the trial as a politically motivated attack.
