Following his arrest, Zarate was held at the Crawford County Jail. Authorities responded to a disturbance call in the 300 block of East Wells St., where they discovered a woman and a girl who had reportedly been attacked by Zarate.
Zarate faces multiple charges, including domestic disorderly conduct, battery, strangulation, physical abuse of a child, and second-degree sexual assault. Prairie du Chien Police Chief Kyle Teynor suggested that Zarate was known to the victims, indicating the assault was not random, according to WMTV in Madison, Wisconsin.
Given that Zarate is not a U.S. citizen and may be in the country illegally, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was informed of his arrest. The Tren de Aragua gang has expanded its influence in the U.S., coinciding with the surge of illegal immigrants across the southern border with Mexico. This criminal organization is known for engaging in murder, extortion, kidnapping, and trafficking of drugs, weapons, and human beings.

The gang has reportedly taken control of entire apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, and is also active in New York City, where law enforcement is concerned about potential alliances with MS-13 gangs from El Salvador.
This arrest comes amid a series of crimes committed by illegal immigrants that have garnered national attention. In Alabama, an illegal immigrant was apprehended after assuming a fake identity as a U.S. citizen and voting in multiple elections. In another case, Fairfax County police arrested an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who had previously been deported, after finding children shackled to a bed in their mother’s apartment.
