UFC Champion Sean Strickland Holds Suspected Car Thief at Gunpoint Until Police Arrive

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland recently shared a video on Instagram where he was seen holding a man at gunpoint outside his house. The footage captures the man stumbling between two vehicles in Strickland’s driveway, prompting the fighter to draw his firearm and later force the individual to sit down after an attempted escape.

In the Instagram post accompanying the video, Strickland explained that he initially believed the man was trying to steal his car. However, he later learned that the person had been involved in a drunken altercation with a girl. A security guard witnessed the incident, and when the man attempted to flee, he was followed, eventually hitting a curb and damaging his tire. The man then sought refuge at Strickland’s house, leading to the confrontation. The intruder was subsequently arrested.

As Strickland gears up for his first defense of the middleweight title against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297 on January 20, the incident has sparked discussions about athletes taking matters into their own hands to protect their homes. The 32-year-old fighter boasts a commendable MMA career with a record of 28-5 since his debut in 2008. It’s worth noting that Strickland is not the first UFC athlete to use a firearm in response to a perceived threat at home; in 2020, UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones brandished a shotgun while chasing away an alleged car thief from his residence.
