Trump’s Border Czar Vows to Prosecute Mayors Who Harbor Illegal Immigrants

President-elect Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, has reiterated his commitment to prosecuting mayors who knowingly harbor or conceal illegal immigrants.
Speaking at the Northwest Side GOP holiday party in Illinois earlier this week, Homan emphasized his intention to enforce federal immigration laws and hold public officials accountable for obstructing deportation efforts.
During an appearance on Fox & Friends Friday, Homan made it clear that he would not hesitate to take legal action against mayors who cross the line.
“You will not only go after the illegal migrants, you may go after some mayors who aren’t helping?” asked co-host Steve Doocy.
“If they step over that line,” Homan replied. “They can sit back and watch us, which again I find incredible—you don’t want to take public safety threats out of your community to help us—but there are laws on the books that we will — we will prosecute.”
Homan cited specific laws, including those against “impeding a federal law enforcement officer” and “knowingly concealing or harboring an illegal alien from ICE,” both of which he noted are felony offenses.
Holding Mayors Accountable
Reflecting on his past experiences, Homan said, “When I was an agent a long time ago, I’ve arrested U.S. citizens for harboring an alien in their home or a place of employment.”
At the holiday party, Homan directly addressed Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, warning him not to obstruct plans for mass deportations, which are set to begin in Chicago. “If he doesn’t want to help, get the hell out of the way,” Homan declared. “If he knowingly harbors or conceals an illegal alien—I will prosecute him.”
Collaboration with New York City Leadership
Homan also met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday. Following their discussion, Adams held a press conference stating that New York City would no longer serve as “a safe haven for those who commit repeated violent crimes against innocent migrants, immigrants, and long-standing New Yorkers.”
This stance marks a notable shift as federal and local officials grapple with addressing the complex issues surrounding illegal immigration and public safety. Homan’s remarks highlight the administration’s firm approach to enforcing immigration laws, signaling significant changes ahead for sanctuary city policies.
