Trump Attends Big NASCAR Race In Major Swing State

Former President Donald Trump traveled to North Carolina on Sunday to attend NASCAR’s Coca Cola 500 race, reports said.

Trump last attended a NASCAR event in 2020 and was the fourth sitting president to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Daytona 500, according to USA Today. This Sunday marks the first time a former or sitting president has attended a race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, the outlet reported.

A video of former President Trump’s plane, dubbed Trump Force One, performing a flyover at the race garnered hundreds of thousands of views after being posted on Twitter. In another video shared by Charlotte Motor Speedway, a crowd erupts in “USA” chants as they greet Trump.

Trump also visited the pits during his trip.

The former president is leading hypothetical matchups against President Joe Biden in key swing states, including North Carolina. According to the RealClearPolitics average, Trump holds a five-point lead over Biden in North Carolina. In the 2020 election, Trump won the state with 50.1% of the vote, as reported by USA Today.

Before attending the Sunday race, Trump spoke at the Libertarian Party Convention in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. During his speech, Trump promised the party a cabinet position if he is elected with their support.

The closing arguments in Trump’s Manhattan court case, which has been ongoing since April 15, are set to begin on Tuesday. Throughout the trial, which left Trump free on Wednesdays and weekends, the former president has claimed that it has interfered with his ability to campaign.

“I’m supposed to be in Georgia, I’m supposed to be in New Hampshire, I’m supposed to be in Ohio and lots of other places, and they have me sitting here,” Trump said late last month.

Since Trump’s court case in Manhattan began on April 15,  the former president has held just three rallies as of May 18, according to a Daily Caller analysis. In comparison, Trump conducted 28 rallies during the same period in 2016.

According to a Daily Caller analysis, Trump’s campaigning in 2024 has significantly decreased compared to 2016. From January 1 to May 7, 2016, Trump held 132 rallies across 43 states. In the same period in 2024, he has held only 24 rallies in 11 states.
