Trump Says Biden 'Asleep' as Russia-Ukraine Situation Worsens

Former President Donald Trump provided his insight on the situation with Ukraine and Russia, and specifically focused on President Joe Biden’s weakness in the face of a challenge.

Trump said that Putin called in a “special military operation” and said that those types of measures would not have taken place with him as president.

“This would not have happened during my administration…It wouldn’t have taken place and it wouldn’t have taken place right now. And it’s a very sad thing for the world, for the country. And it’s certainly very sad for a lot of people that are going to be needlessly killed,” he said to Laura Ingraham of Fox News.

Trump was asked by the host why Putin would decide to invade Ukraine, to which Trump said that the Russian President attacked when the US was at a moment of weakness under president Joe Biden, adding that the real weakness became apparent after the US’s botched exit from Afghanistan.

“The way it started; I really don’t believe he wanted to do this initially. I think he wanted to do something and negotiate it. It just got worse and worse. And then he saw the weakness. And you know, it really started I think, with the weakness in Afghanistan, the way they pulled out of Afghanistan. I really believe that’s where he started thinking, ‘You know I can do this,'” Trump said.

Trump also criticized Biden for his announcement that he was “monitoring” the situation in Ukraine, saying that Biden was more likely “asleep.

“I don’t think he’s monitoring. I think he’s probably sleeping right now,” he said. “But this is a terrible thing. This is something that should have never happened. I really believe that it was Afghanistan. When he looked at that horrible week pull out, one of the worst…when they saw that, I think that they said, ‘Maybe we can do this.'”

Trump expressed concerns over the growing relationship between China and Russia, saying: “You know, as a young man growing up, I always heard that the worst thing that can happen is to drive those two countries together. It really started with Obama and energy. He drove them together because one needed the energy and the other one needed the money. He drove them together. I kept them apart. And Biden, now it looks like it’s a great love fest. And that’s a very bad thing… it’s a very bad thing what has happened.”
