President Donald Trump’s nominee to take the reins at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Dr. Mehmet Oz, has taken a stand against transgender procedures for minors.

A member of his team spoke to The Daily Wire exclusively for an interview in which they made the assertion.

“Dr. Oz fully understands the harms caused to minors by such procedures and is committed to implementing President Donald J. Trump’s agenda of protecting children so they can grow to live out their God-given potential,” the staffer said.

Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley previously said he was concerned about the nominee’s record on transgender issues and abortion.

He said that previously, Dr. Oz had “praised trans surgeries for minors and supported hormone treatments & puberty blockers for kids in the past,” as well as “criticized state laws protecting life.”

“I hope he’s changed his views to match President Trump!” the senator said on X. “We need the Trump agenda at CMS.”

The nominee’s team said that he asked for a meeting with Sen. Hawley, but the senator declined.

But Hawley’s team said that he did not decline the meeting but was simply waiting for answers to questions he sent to Oz before scheduling the meeting, which is standard Senate procedure.

Oz had previously said that he had concerns that a strong pro-life stance would make businesses flee Republican states, but during the 2022 Pennsylvania Senate election, against Sen. John Fetterman, he said he would fight for the pro-life agenda.

“I will be a bold voice in the Senate and a proud champion for the pro-life movement. I won’t ever shy away from sharing my pro-life beliefs, even as pro-abortion advocates in medicine, the media, and Big Tech try to silence me,” he said.

Oz’s nomination advanced out of the Senate Finance Committee by a vote of 14-13 and now heads to the Senate for a full vote.
