A high-ranking ISIS leader has been killed in a U.S. military operation carried out in coordination with Iraqi forces. President Donald Trump announced the successful strike on Friday evening, confirming the elimination of the terrorist.
Trump shared the news on Truth Social, stating, “Today the fugitive leader of ISIS in Iraq was killed. He was relentlessly hunted down by our intrepid warfighters. His miserable life was terminated, along with another member of ISIS, in coordination with the Iraqi Government and the Kurdish Regional Government. PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!”
According to Fox News, the ISIS leader killed in the strike was Abdallah Maki Mosleh al-Rifai, also known as “Abu Khadija.” The U.S. military worked with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service to carry out the attack. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani confirmed his death in a post on X, describing Abu Khadija as a major figure within ISIS leadership. He stated that the terrorist “held the so-called position of (Deputy Caliph), in addition to serving as the so-called Wali of Iraq and Syria, head of the Authorized Committee, and overseer of external operations offices. He was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world.”
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) issued a statement on the strike, confirming it took place in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. The operation targeted “the Global ISIS #2 leader, Chief of Global Operations and the Delegated Committee Emir – Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, alias ‘Abu Khadijah,’ and one other ISIS operative.”
Following the airstrike, U.S. and Iraqi forces arrived at the scene and confirmed the deaths of both ISIS members. They discovered that the terrorists had been wearing suicide vests that had not detonated and were armed with multiple weapons. Their identities were verified using DNA testing.
Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, the Commander of U.S. Central Command, emphasized the significance of the operation. “Abu Khadijah was one of the most important ISIS members in the entire global ISIS organization. We will continue to kill terrorists and dismantle their organizations that threaten our homeland and U.S., allied and partner personnel in the region and beyond,” he told reporters.
