Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded Tuesday to a Democratic lawmaker’s comment that appeared to mock his disability, saying attacks like these will only hurt the party in future elections.
“It’s another day and another disaster by the Democrats. The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it,” Abbott said during an interview on Hannity.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) made the remark over the weekend at a Human Rights Campaign dinner in Los Angeles, referring to Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels.”
Following backlash, Crockett defended her words in a post on X, stating, “I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition.” She claimed her comment was aimed at Abbott’s transportation of illegal immigrants into communities led by Black mayors. “Literally, the next line I said was that he was a ‘Hot A** Mess,’ referencing his terrible policies. At no point did I mention or allude to his condition,” she wrote.
Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) told Fox News Digital that he plans to introduce a censure resolution against Crockett for what he called “venomous rhetoric.”
Abbott, who was left paralyzed at age 26 after a tree fell on him while jogging, took the opportunity to highlight Texas’ economic success under his leadership.
“Texas ranks number one for the most new economic development projects for 13 years in a row,” he said. “CEOs who run businesses have ranked Texas the best state for doing business for 20 years in a row.”
Crockett has also been outspoken in her opposition to the Trump administration. Last week, she suggested Tesla CEO Elon Musk should be “taken down.”
