Republican Speaker of the House and Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson had high praise for Tesla and Space X CEO Elon Musk and the job he has done with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The Speaker was addressing a crowd at the “Americans For Prosperity” event n Monday when he said that the CEO “cracked the code” of bureaucracy.
“What DOGE is doing — cutting down the size and scope of government pretty dramatically — has resulted in massive cost savings. Cutting out the fraud waste and abuse, I mean — they have already identified almost $60 billion in estimated equipment savings, and they’ve only been doing it for a few weeks,” the Speaker said to the crowd.
“Elon is in the middle of this effort. He has gotten into the belly of the beast. I met with him a couple of weeks ago in his office, the Monday before last, and he was explaining what he’s doing. As he and I talked, we became increasingly excited. I told him, I know you’re excited because you think of this as a scientist and a data analyst. I think of it as a constitutional law attorney and historian,” he said.
“Elon, what we’re going to do here is restore the original intent of the framers of the Constitution. They envisioned a small, efficient federal government. Remember, most of the power was designed to be pushed down to the states, right? That is important for maintaining the checks and balances and all the other safeguards we need. They wanted a federal government that was small, efficient, effective, and accountable,” Johnson noted further.
“The accountability piece was meant to be ensured by the duly elected representatives of the people in Congress through oversight. The problem is, for decades, as we all know, we haven’t been able to do that job well. Even though we’ve requested data and insight, it was hidden. How many of you know that bureaucracy was not forthcoming, right? They weren’t transparent. That’s the problem—that’s the deep state we talk about,” he added.
“They were hiding information from Congress. We didn’t know that USAID was funding drag shows in Peru or transgender operas in Colombia. It’s madness. But Elon has cracked the code. He is now inside the agencies. He has created algorithms that are constantly crawling through the data. As he told me in his office, the data doesn’t lie,” said Johnson.
“We’re going to get the information and transform the way the federal government works. By the end of this, it will be a truly revolutionary moment for the nation,” he added.
