Rubio Snubs Florida Gov. DeSantis, Throws Support to Trump

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is a fan of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ statewide policies but he believes that former President Donald Trump would be a better choice later this year to fix what ails the country under President Joe Biden.

As such, Rubio endorsed Trump on Sunday instead of DeSantis for the 2024 presidential election, Fox News reported.

“When Trump was in WH I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us,” Rubio wrote on X.

“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created,” he added. “It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!”

Rubio had previously competed against Trump in the 2016 election but withdrew from the race after losing in the Florida primary. Last November, Florida Sen. Rick Scott publicly endorsed Trump, aligning both state senators in favor of Trump over DeSantis.

In the heated 2016 campaign, Trump frequently referred to Rubio as “Little Marco,” while Rubio characterized Trump as a “con artist” and expressed concerns about the potential for “chaos” in his administration, Fox News added.

Mere hours before Rubio announced his endorsement of Trump, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, who had also withdrawn from the 2024 race, endorsed the former president.

Rubio’s endorsement comes at a time when Trump continues to maintain a strong lead in polls. He joins a group of nearly two dozen GOP senators in supporting Trump, including Sens. JD Vance of Ohio, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Rick Scott of Florida, Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt of Missouri, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, among others.
