Post By Elon Musk ‘Sent Shockwaves Through Capitol’ Over Bloated Spending Bill

Fox News Capitol Hill correspondent Chad Pergram detailed how Congress is working to get a continuing resolution passed to fund the government.

A bipartisan piece of legislation was agreed upon until Space X and Tesla CEO Elon Musk and President-elect Donald Trump raised red flags.

The correspondent spoke to Fox News host Neil Cavuto, who is leaving the network after 28 years, about the situation in DC.

“We’re told in the past 30 or 40 minutes they may tried to pull this interim spending bill off the floor and maybe just go with a ‘clean bill,’ it is unclear what that means, for disaster assistance. Here is what happened. A post on X by Elon Musk sent shock waves through the Capitol. House Republicans are trying to see if they have enough votes in the next hour or two. Musk posted that anyone who votes yes should lose their office in two years. And lawmakers are scrambling,” said Pergram.

“I think there is always a lot of interest in what is happening up here,” Sen. John Thune said in a video played during the segment. “The social media world is part of our politics and I think members have to expect that there would be a lot of hard votes in the next couple years.”

“A member of the House Republican leadership told FOX that Musk ‘is not helping.’ The lawmaker added that Musk ‘has bigger fish to fry than picking a fight with House Republicans.’

“One source said the bill is now leading support from the GOP. When asked how many Democrats the GOP needs to pass the bill, they replied, ‘a lot.’ Lawmakers who had hurricanes devastate their districts are torn,” the correspondent added.

“The fact is this is a sh*t sandwich, I don’t know how else to say it. We’ve been forced into this position. They could have done a standalone, they did this because they knew it would put members in this position to support it. We’re damned if wse do, damned if we don’t,” Rep. Ana Paulina Luna said in a clip.

“The bill has about $100 billion dollars in disaster relief and $30 billion to restock FEMA’s coffers. There are lots of health care provisions. Jamming everything together in one bill means some Republicans will not support Mike Johnson for Speaker in January,” Pergram continued.

“I have talked to a few who don’t seem like they will vote for him. You have to ask them I’m not going to betray anyone’s position,” Rep. Thomas Massie said in a clip. “I will vote for someone else.”

“Johnson can only lose one vote and still win the Speaker’s race on January 3,” Pergram reported.

“Some Republicans ask how things are different on this spending bill under Johnson than under former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. The funding deadline is Friday night,” he said.
