MTG Introduces House Resolution to Censure Rashida Tlaib After Antisemitic Stances and Sympathy for Hamas

Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has introduced a House resolution to censure fellow Representative Rashida Tlaib, a member of the “Squad” and a Democrat from Michigan. The resolution accuses Tlaib of engaging in “antisemitic activity” and “sympathizing with terrorist organizations.”

Greene’s resolution was presented the day after the House elected its new speaker, Louisiana Republican Representative Mike Johnson. It aims to compel a House vote on censuring Tlaib.

In her announcement, Greene claimed that “Tlaib led a pro-Hamas insurrection into the Capitol complex, has repeatedly displayed her antisemitic beliefs, and shown her hatred for Israel.” She asserted that Tlaib must be held accountable and censured.

Greene read the resolution on the House floor while introducing the legislation.

Tlaib responded with a press release characterizing Greene’s resolution as “unhinged” and “deeply Islamophobic.” Tlaib also expressed solidarity with Jewish peace advocates calling for a ceasefire and an end to violence.

“I will not be bullied, I will not be dehumanized, and I will not be silenced,” Tlaib declared. She vowed to continue her efforts for a just and lasting peace that respects human rights and dignity.

Greene criticized the Democratic Party for not holding Tlaib accountable and not reining her in, citing the need to address Tlaib’s recurrent behavior.

In the resolution, Greene referenced Tlaib’s participation in a pro-Palestinian protest on Capitol Hill where activists called for a ceasefire amid escalating tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Tlaib blamed Israel for a hospital bombing in Gaza, despite intelligence agencies suggesting it resulted from a misfired Hamas rocket.

The resolution also pointed out Tlaib’s endorsement of a slogan used by Hamas and the Palestine Liberation Organization and her characterization of Israel as “an apartheid government.”
