House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has demanded that the White House provide documentation to clarify the nature of a $200,000 payment from James Biden to President Joe Biden in 2018.
Last week, Comer disclosed that Joe Biden received a “$200,000 direct payment” in the form of a “personal check” from his brother James Biden and sister-in-law Sara Biden. The check was labeled as “loan repayment,” Fox News Digital reports.

You can see how really inexperienced he is at this. Biden was a private citizen at the time and doesn't have to prove to… pic.twitter.com/bTi0e9BxUq— Alex Cole (@acnewsitics) October 26, 2023
In response, the White House explained that Joe Biden, as a private citizen, loaned his brother money when needed, and there’s evidence in bank records to confirm repayment.

We know @POTUS benefited from his family’s influence peddling schemes. The bank records don’t lie. There is more to come soon.

However, Comer has now written a letter to White House Counsel Edward Siskel requesting documentation on this payment. He noted that records obtained by the committee revealed several significant incoming transactions into James and Sara Biden’s personal accounts from various entities. While some of these transactions obscured the true payer, none of the records indicate that Joe Biden made a large loan payment to his brother.
Comer emphasized that the Internal Revenue Code has specific requirements for differentiating “below-market [rate] loans” from gifts. Since there was no interest paid on the “loan” based on the White House’s representations, it raises questions regarding whether it should be considered a loan at all.
The current lack of documentation, according to Comer, leaves reason to doubt the claims that this transaction was repayment for a legal loan. He called for documentation that clarifies the payment’s nature and whether all applicable documentation and IRS filings were properly made.
Comer’s investigation into the Biden family’s business dealings has been ongoing, with a focus on whether President Biden was involved in those ventures or personally benefited from them. The $200,000 “loan repayment” is part of this broader examination.
In a video posted last week, Comer explained that James Biden received loans based on the representation that his last name could open doors, and that he could secure a significant investment from the Middle East due to his political connections. James Biden then wrote a $200,000 check to Joe Biden as a “loan repayment.”
