MSNBC Axes Joy Reid’s Show As Network Undergoes Major Overhaul

MSNBC is canceling Joy Reid’s program, The ReidOut, as part of a major network overhaul, Fox News Digital has learned.

Reid’s 7 p.m. ET slot will be replaced by a new show featuring Symone Sanders-Townsend, a former spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris, along with Alicia Menendez and former RNC Chair-turned-MSNBC host Michael Steele, according to a source familiar with the plans.

Reid is set to host the final episode of The ReidOut this week, and “The ReidOut” cancellation won’t be the only change at MSNBC. MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kutler, is preparing to announce further programming changes across dayside, weekends, and primetime, according to a source familiar with the plans, Fox News Digital has reported.

Jen Psaki, host of Inside with Jen Psaki, is expected to receive more airtime as part of the network’s reshuffling.

Meanwhile, Alex Wagner, who lost her primetime hosting role when Rachel Maddow transitioned from a weekly to a nightly show for the first 100 days of the Trump administration, will remain with MSNBC as a correspondent but is not expected to return to the 9 p.m. ET slot.

Inside with Jen Psaki debuted in 2023 as the brainchild of MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler. As the network’s most-watched weekend program, speculation about expanding Psaki’s airtime has been ongoing.

Meanwhile, Townsend, Steele, and Menendez currently co-host The Weekend, another Kutler creation that launched in January 2024.

Menendez, the daughter of disgraced former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), will make history as the first Latina woman to host a primetime cable news program on MSNBC. The new show will run for two hours on Mondays, extending into primetime, and will air for one hour from Tuesday through Friday.

MSNBC is currently in discussions to potentially add Eugene Daniels from Politico and Melissa Murray, a law professor at New York University, to its network, according to information obtained by Fox News Digital.

The ReidOut has been struggling to maintain viewership, averaging just 973,000 total viewers in February 2025—a 28% drop from the 1.3 million it drew during the same month in 2024. Reid has become notorious for her anti-Trump rhetoric and controversial statements.

Following the November presidential election, she claimed that Black women had lost interest in “saving America” due to what she described as the betrayal of White female voters, who turned out in greater numbers than expected to support President Trump.
