Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly believes that Americans should give President Donald Trump a chance as he uses tariffs to fix the economy.

The host, who now has her own show on Sirius XM, said that there was not any chance that the president was going to allow long term damage to the economy.

“I, for one, say we give President Trump a chance. There’s no way he’s going to let a bunch of economic pain rain down on the country for the next three and a half years without doing anything about it. He’s talking about short term pain for long term gain. We got the full announcement from Donald Trump about his new tariff plan… The defenders of the free trade world say, yes, all of that sounds good on paper, the unfairness is a very easy argument to make, but net-net, we’re still the strongest economy in the world because of our free trade,” the host said.

“We actually don’t make a lot of things domestically, and won’t start to just because of this plan and that this is going to cause what’s called stagflation, where inflation goes up and the economy slows, and eventually we could see job losses. They’re predicting all doom and gloom. Why don’t we give him a chance? Why don’t we see how this changes things? Because over the last 25 years, our manufacturing industry has been gutted. It’s been sliced in half,” she said.

When the president spoke to Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy he predicted that the economy would boom because of the tariffs.

“I think it’s going very well. It was an operation like when a patient gets operated on. And it’s a big thing. I said this would exactly be the way it is. We have six or seven trillion dollars coming into our country, and we’ve never seen anything like it. The markets are going to boom,” the president said.

“The stock is going to boom. The country is going to boom. And the rest of the world wants to see is there any way they can make a deal. They’ve taken advantage of us for many, many years. For many years, we’ve been at the wrong side of the ball. And I’ll tell you what, I think it’s going to be unbelievable,” Trump said.

“The thing that people have to talk about, we’re up almost to seven trillion dollars of investment coming into our country. And you’ll see how it’s going to turn out. Our country is going to boom,” he said.
