Liberal HBO host and comedian Bill Maher shredded the wokeness of the National Football League for its “stupid” idea of putting “End Racism” in its endzones.
The “Real Time” host was speaking with Puck’s senior political correspondent, Tara Palmeri, when the topic arose.
“But why? It just seems silly,” Palmeri said of the fact that the NFL decided to not feature the slogan in the endzones for this Super Bowl.
“Why get rid of it?” she said.
“Oh I could tell you why,” the HBO host said.
“Because it was stupid to begin with,” he said. “Let me ask you who is it for? And if you’re a racist and you see end racism in the end zone you’re gonna stop being a racist?
“But the sentiment is basically don’t be an asshole,” the Puck correspondent said.
“But I think it’s an asshole to nag us during a football game about something that doesn’t change anything or anything. If I’m not a racist and I see it it doesn’t matter and if I am a racist it’s gonna make me more of a racist,” the host said.
That was when Republican Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, who was also a guest on the show, chimed in with a quip
“I think if you write “Don’t Be An A**hole” in the end zone everybody will agree with that,” he said to applause.
“The problem is we all think the other guy’s an a**hole,” Maher insisted.
“No one thinks they’re a racist,” Palmeri said.
“Well there are some people who proudly think they’re racist. The guy, the Trump kid. Did you see that tweet this week?” the host said, referring to a member of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team.
“Oh yeah he said I’m proudly a racist. Something like that,” Palmeri said.
“I was racist before it was cool. This is one of the incels. One of the geek squad incels that Musk has going through. And then Musk tweeted out ‘Should he stay in his job?’ And 78% said yes he should,” Maher said
“Now again I don’t think all 78% are racist. I think some of that some of them are and some of them are just like this is a revolt against cancel culture. This is my point. There’s never just a reaction. It’s always an overreaction. You went too far with cancel culture bullshit and this is what you get,” he said.
