Louisville Bank Shooter’s Family Condemns ‘Senseless Act of Violence’ and Reveal Son’s Mental Health History

The family of the Kentucky bank mass shooter, Connor Sturgeon, issued a statement on Tuesday evening in which they condemned the “senseless acts of violence” perpetrated by their son. Sturgeon, a former employee of the Louisville Old National Bank, shot and killed five people and injured nine others on Monday before being taken into custody by police.

In their statement, the family expressed their deep sadness for the victims and their families, as well as their gratitude for the bravery and heroism of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department.

They also confirmed that Sturgeon had “mental health challenges,” which they were actively addressing, but there were “never any warning signs or indications he was capable of this shocking act.”

“No words can express our sorrow, anguish, and horror at the unthinkable harm our son Connor inflicted on innocent people, their families, and the entire Louisville community,” the statement continued.

“We mourn their loss and that of our son, Connor. We pray for everyone traumatized by his senseless acts of violence and are deeply grateful for the bravery and heroism of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department.”

The family’s attorney also revealed that Sturgeon had sent a text message to his family just prior to the shooting, saying “I love you.”

Police reported that Sturgeon had left a note and told someone that he was suicidal, as well as revealing that he had purchased his firearm six days prior from a local gun shop.

It was earlier reported that the 25-year-old had left a note for his parents prior to the massacre, along with a number of Instagram posts that indicated his intention to carry out the attack after his firing. He was apparently also live-streaming the event on Instagram under the username “Mr. Concussion.”

Sturgeon worked as an intern at the bank from 2018 to 2020 while he was attending school at the University of Alabama.

Friends of his were shocked that he could commit such an act and suggested that his series of concussions may have affected his mental health.
