In a recent 60 Minutes interview, Vice President Kamala Harris revealed that she owns a Glock pistol, despite her strong advocacy for gun control measures that could limit or prohibit the ownership of such firearms.
“I have a Glock and I’ve had it for quite some time,” Harris stated during the interview. “My background is in law enforcement, so there you go.” When asked if she had ever fired the gun, Harris laughed and responded, “Yes, of course I have, at a shooting range.”
As a former district attorney, Harris was a vocal supporter of Proposition H in San Francisco, which sought to impose a total handgun ban within the city. Throughout her political career, she has consistently endorsed efforts to reinstate the 1994 federal “assault weapons” ban and has supported restrictions on “high-capacity” magazines, those holding more than 10 rounds—magazines commonly used in Glock pistols.
In California, it is a misdemeanor to possess a standard Glock magazine holding more than 10 rounds. If Harris owns such a magazine, it would constitute a violation of California law, as outlined in the state’s Penal Code, according to The Daily Caller. Moreover, a report by The Reloaded noted that standard Glock models are deemed “unsafe” under California regulations because they lack certain safety features like a loaded chamber indicator or magazine disconnect.
Harris has a long history of pushing for anti-gun legislation. During her 2020 presidential campaign, she advocated for a mandatory buyback program for “assault weapons” and universal background checks.
However, in the 2024 election cycle, Harris has sought to present a more moderate stance on gun rights. She recently claimed in an interview that neither she nor her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, plan to “take anybody’s guns away,” and reaffirmed her support for the Second Amendment.
