Investigators in Maryland believe they have located the body of Lesbia Mileth Ramirez Guerra, a 23-year-old woman who disappeared at the end of March. The discovery was made in a wooded section near Cedarville State Forest in Prince George’s County.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the search was driven by leads, interviews, and digital evidence that pointed detectives from the Prince George’s County Police Department to the area. The body, believed to be Guerra, was found buried deep in the forest, Fox 5 reports.
“When detectives were on the scene as they were combing through the forest, they actually spotted an area and just begin digging right there and they had to dig about five feet deep before they saw the tips of a blanket and from there they realize that they had found Miss Guerrera,” said spokesperson Diane Richardson.
She added, “[The] area is heavily wooded. We would’ve never found her if it wasn’t for the digital information that came into us, so based on that which it took a little bit of time, but based on that we were really able to pinpoint where she was and we never gave up. We worked day night overnight early mornings we just never gave up.”
The young mother was last seen on March 31 at her home on Adams Court in Waldorf. She shared the residence with several individuals, including her boyfriend, 24-year-old Keycy Robinson Alexi Barrera Rosa, who is also the father of her two children. Guerra was reported missing by Rosa on April 2.
The investigation revealed “unusual and suspicious activity” at the residence the day after Guerra was last seen. During a search, authorities discovered fake federal documents connected to Rosa. When U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was contacted, they confirmed the documents were fraudulent, and that Rosa was in the country illegally. ICE agents initially took him into custody, but he was later released.
Following the discovery of the body, an arrest warrant was issued for Rosa, who is now facing murder charges. He is currently outside Maryland and will be extradited to Charles County.
Rosa’s uncle, 37-year-old Rolvin Eduardo Bererra Bererra, was also arrested and charged as an accessory to the murder for actions taken in Prince George’s County. He is currently being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.
Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry responded to the news: “While this was not the ending that we all hoped for, I am grateful to all those who worked so hard to find Ms. Guerra. On behalf of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, I offer our most sincere condolences to all of her family and friends.”
Richardson said authorities were heartbroken but grateful they could bring closure to the family. “She has two young children, a mother and a father and they’re from different parts of the region. We made the notification to them and I think there was some relief and it was certainly very tragic and for us the same feeling of relief that we have found her, but on the other hand, it was traumatic for investigators and heartbreaking,” she said.
Guerra’s two children are now staying with a family member. Her parents and brother had planned to search the forest over the Easter weekend.
Her body has been sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.
