Illegal Alien Arrested With AR-15, Fentanyl In Massachusetts Homeless Shelter

A 28-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested at a Massachusetts homeless shelter after being found in possession of a semi-automatic rifle and an estimated $1 million worth of fentanyl, sparking an investigation into shelters across the state.

Leonardo Andujar Sanchez, a Dominican national, was detained by the Revere Police Department while carrying a loaded AR-15 rifle with three magazines and 10 pounds of fentanyl. The fentanyl, a highly lethal drug responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans, is estimated to be enough for 2.2 million fatal doses.

Sanchez had been seeking a room at a hotel converted into a homeless shelter when he was arrested. He is currently in state custody and will be transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), reports said.

“This individual endangered occupants of the hotel, on-site workers, public safety personnel and the community at large,” Revere Police Chief David Callahan stated. “His arrest underscores our commitment to work tirelessly to protect our community from those dealing deadly Fentanyl and possessing illegal firearms.”

The arrest of the illegal immigrant led Democrat Governor Maura Healey to order an inspection of homeless shelters statewide, along with a review of their policies. She also placed blame on the federal government, criticizing the “broken federal immigration system,” though her administration and several jurisdictions in Massachusetts have so-called “sanctuary” policies whereby they don’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities to remove people in the country illegally.

“This further underscores our broken federal immigration system and the urgent need for Congress and the White House to act on a border security bill to prevent criminals from entering our communities,” Healy said.

However, Healy has also been a vocal critic of President-elect Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda, stating that state authorities will not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement operations.

The Democrat Governor said in one November interview that the Massachusetts State Police will “absolutely not” be permitted to assist the federal government in its effort to enforce immigration law against illegal aliens.
