Two illegal immigrants from Venezuela are facing serious charges after they allegedly kidnapped and tortured a Washington state woman earlier this year. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed detainers on both men, one of whom may be linked to the violent Tren de Aragua gang.
Kevin Daniel Sanabria Ojeda, 24, and Alexander Moises Arnaez-Gutierrez, 25, were both charged last week in King County, Washington, with kidnapping, robbery, and attempted murder.
A senior ICE official confirmed to Fox News that both men are Venezuelan nationals in the U.S. illegally. ICE is coordinating with local authorities to place detainers on them.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the two suspects forced the woman into a car. “They used a power drill to drill into (the victim’s) hand to get access to her cell phone and bank accounts,” the arrest report said. “They then threatened her by telling her they were going to kill her, kill her family, feed her to the bears and dump her body far away.”
The report also says the suspects drove the woman to Kittitas County and shot her near Interstate 90. “They shot her on a mountain pass and left her for dead,” investigators wrote.
After about 15 minutes, the woman managed to climb over a retaining wall and get help. She was taken to the hospital, where she told police she had pretended to be dead after being shot in the shoulder.
With help from the FBI, authorities tracked down Sanabria Ojeda’s vehicle at a motel in Illinois. Surveillance footage and additional evidence helped confirm his identity. After his arrest, police found jewelry belonging to the victim in his hotel room, says Fox.
“Post Miranda (rights), Sanabria stated that he participated in the kidnapping, vehicle theft, robbery and killing of the ‘lady’ known to investigators as (victim),” the arrest report said.
The second suspect, Arnaez-Gutierrez, was arrested during a traffic stop by Mercer Island Police. The King County Sheriff’s Office said one of the suspects is believed to have probable ties to Tren de Aragua.
The investigation is still ongoing.
