GOP Slams 'Woke' Pentagon Over Its Gender, Abortion, Diversity Policies

House Republicans are making a push to combat the Biden administration’s hyper-woke policies on gender, abortion, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by utilizing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) – an annual defense policy bill, Fox News Digital reports.

Last week, GOP lawmakers submitted numerous amendments for consideration in the 2024 NDAA, which had already been passed by the House Armed Services Committee in June. With over 1,300 amendments filed for the bill, House Republicans plan to address these issues when they reconvene next week.

The current version of the bill already incorporates several anti-woke provisions, including Rep. Jim Banks’ language that would bar the Pentagon from hiring senior-level DEI officials.

Rep. Banks stated, “We passed my amendments slashing DEI bureaucrats, banning race and gender quotas in military recruiting and promotions, reinstating unvaccinated service members fired by the Biden administration, and shutting down the Navy’s drag queen digital ambassador program, and we passed provisions to defund critical race theory courses at West Point and our service academies, fire the chief diversity officer at the DOD and end drag shows at our military bases.”

House Republicans are seeking to go further before the bill reaches a final vote on the House floor.

Several GOP amendments aim to prevent the Pentagon from providing transgender surgeries or related services to service members.

Reps. Matt Rosendale, Lauren Boebert, and Anna Paulina Luna introduced an amendment to prohibit the military’s health care system from offering sex reassignment surgeries and gender hormone treatments.

In addition, Boebert and Rep. Ralph Norman proposed an amendment to ban gender transition procedures in military family care, and Reps. Mary Miller and Matt Gaetz seek to prohibit these surgeries altogether.

Gaetz presented two other amendments concerning the DOD’s gender policies.

One would prevent base reassignments based on complaints of state discrimination against individuals due to sexual orientation, while the other would restrict service members from using facilities not designated for their birth certificate gender.

Boebert also submitted an amendment that would prevent Defense Department schools from purchasing and housing books promoting pornographic and radical gender ideologies in their libraries.

Republicans are also seeking to roll back the Pentagon’s recent policy of granting service members time off for abortions and reimbursing their travel expenses.

Rep. Ronny Jackson introduced an amendment to prohibit the Department of Defense from reimbursing abortion-related travel costs, and Reps. Norman and Jodey Arrington proposed language to prevent federal funds from being used for abortions outside of a service member’s state.

Multiple amendments aim to dismantle the Pentagon’s commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion – a priority for the Biden administration.
