Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade that there are leaks that have been found in the intelligence community to undermine President Donald Trump’s agenda.
She said that two people have been criminally charged with leaking to the media, and a third person will be charged.
“Let’s first of all point out what we know has been the problem for a very long time. One of the reasons why the American people voted resoundingly for President Trump was to root out the kind of politicization and weaponization of intelligence that has really undermined the trust the American people have in the intelligence community and the national security state, but really, what also directly undermines our own national security,” the DNI chief said.
“So I made it very clear to the U.S. Senate, to the American people, when I had the honor of being appointed to this position, that we will not allow this to continue. We take this very seriously. It is illegal to leak classified information. And so what you’re seeing here is me carrying out the promise and the mandate the American people gave Trump,” Gabbard said.
“We conducted our own internal investigation. We have referred them now to the Department of Justice and the FBI for an official criminal investigation because these are crimes, and people need to be held accountable to put a stop to this,” she said.
The host mentioned that undermining occurred during the first Trump presidency and asked how they were combating those leaks this time
“When we look at the examples that I have seen, just in the short time I have been in this position. What they consist of is essentially very selective leaks to their friends in the propaganda media that twist and manipulate intelligence directly to undermine the president’s policies and his aggressive work to keep the American people safe,” she said.
“Does that third person know that you are zeroing in on them?” the host said.
“I don’t know if they know. These are the first three investigations. We are referring to the Department of Justice. There are more that we are continuing to investigate internally,” Gabbard said before Kilmeade asked if she could name the leakers.
“I can’t get into detail now because of the criminal investigations that the FBI will be conducting, but in each one of these examples, can I tell you we know that the intent, based on the results that we have seen through their leaks to the ‘The Washington Post,’ to the ‘New York Times’ and other outlets, ‘Huffington Post’ and others has been to directly undermine President Trump and the work that he is doing,” she said.
