Elon Musk Reportedly Eyeing White House Office Space to Lead DOGE

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is reportedly set to secure office space near the West Wing as he prepares to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). According to the New York Times, Musk could occupy an office within the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, adjacent to the primary workspace for White House staff. Discussions between Musk and transition officials have explored the extent of his access to President-elect Trump post-inauguration, though final arrangements remain undecided. The report highlights that special passes are typically required for such access.

Musk has been tapped to lead DOGE alongside tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. The duo’s mission is to identify inefficiencies in government operations, propose executive orders, and work with the Office of Management and Budget to implement reforms aimed at reducing federal spending and waste. Although DOGE operates as a blue-ribbon committee rather than an official government agency, its ambitious goal is to cut $2 trillion from the federal budget by streamlining programs and trimming the federal workforce.

However, Musk recently tempered expectations regarding this target, suggesting a more realistic reduction of $1 trillion. “I think we’ll try for $2 trillion. I think that’s like the best-case outcome,” Musk remarked during CES in Las Vegas last week. “But I do think that you kind of have to have some overage. I think if we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting $1 [trillion].”

Efforts to staff DOGE are well underway, with aides for Musk and Ramaswamy reportedly interviewing personnel from agencies such as the Treasury Department, the IRS, and the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services. Currently, the team consists of 50 members, working out of SpaceX’s Washington, D.C., offices, with plans to expand to 100 by inauguration day.

Musk, who has donated millions to Trump’s 2024 campaign, is still weighing whether to accept a formal government role as head of DOGE. Should he assume such a position, he would be required to file financial disclosure forms. Opting against official status could shield him from certain public accountability measures, such as mandatory public meetings and document sharing.

This week, Musk and other tech industry leaders are scheduled to attend a dinner in Washington, D.C., with incoming Trump administration officials to discuss global innovation in artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship. Hosted by Outside the Box Ventures, a firm founded by journalist-turned-investment banker Katherine Tarbox and French Ambassador to the U.S. Laurent Bili, the gathering is intended to foster collaboration between public and private sectors.

“This gathering represents more than discussion. We hope it symbolizes a new chapter in public-private collaboration to harness technology’s transformative power for the nation’s future,” a source close to the event told Fox News Digital.
