Democrats Help House Republicans Pass Resolution Condemning Harris Over Border

The GOP-led House decisively passed a bipartisan resolution on Thursday to denounce Vice President Kamala Harris as the “border czar” and the Biden administration for its incompetence in addressing illegal immigration.
A total of six Democrats teamed up with 214 Republicans to support the bill, while 196 Democrats opposed it. Additionally, sixteen members, six Republicans and ten Democrats, chose not to vote. The Democrats who went against their party were Representatives Yadira Caraveo (D-CO), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Don Davis (D-NC), Jared Golden (D-ME), Mary Peltola (D-AK), and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA).
The resolution “strongly condemns the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border.” It further “affirms that the American people deserve elected officials who understand the gravity of the crisis at the border and who will execute the policies to fix the border crisis.” The resolution also “clearly and firmly states that the continuation of the Biden, Harris border policies would be disastrous for both the United States and the American people.”
In March 2021, Biden assigned Harris the responsibility of leading his administration’s initiatives to work with Mexico and other countries to reduce the flow of migration to the southern U.S. border. At that time, Harris emphasized the need for the government to address the underlying reasons that drive people to make the journey.
The resolution was introduced by the House’s No. 3 Republican, Elise Stefanik.
“By every metric, Kamala Harris has failed to secure our borders, instead advancing Far Left Democrats’ failed open border policies and the needs of illegal immigrants over the safety of Americans. My resolution condemns Kamala Harris’ role as Joe Biden‘s open border czar and affirms that the American people deserve elected officials who understand the gravity of the crisis at the border and will work to secure the border,” Stefanik, of New York, noted on X in a post that contained a video of her House floor speech.
