Democrat Plot To Rob House Republicans Of Majority Exposed

New York state lawmakers are considering a proposal that could delay a special election to fill the seat of Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), potentially reducing the GOP’s slim majority in the House.

Multiple reports indicate that Democrats in the state legislature are exploring changes to election law that would allow Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) to postpone the special election and align it with the regularly scheduled primaries in June or even the general election in November, a report said on Tuesday.

If passed, this move could leave Stefanik’s seat vacant for several months, complicating House Republicans’ ability to pass legislation with their already narrow majority. President Donald Trump nominated Stefanik as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Her nomination has passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by a voice vote, and she could be confirmed as early as this week.

If the proposal is approved, the seat—a safe GOP stronghold currently held by Stefanik—would remain vacant until at least the June primaries, possibly even the November general election. This delay would prevent Republicans from filling the seat for over half a year, ensuring that House Democrats remain within striking distance of the majority.

Upon Stefanik’s resignation, the House Republican majority will narrow to 217-215, placing significant power in the hands of any single Republican who might choose to break ranks. The proposed changes have sparked controversy, with Republicans arguing that delaying the special election would undermine democratic representation and give Democrats undue leverage in the House.

As of now, the proposal is under consideration, and its outcome remains uncertain.

“This is corruption, the corruption of absolute power,” Western New York GOP Rep. Nick Langworthy told the New York Post.

Added Rep. Mike Lawler (R-Rockland County): “This would be an outrageous abuse of power and expose Democrats hypocrisy when it comes to ‘protecting democracy.’ Kathy Hochul should make clear this will not happen.”
