Dem Politicians Won’t Stop Calling Trump a “Threat to Democracy” Despite Two Assassination Attempts

Several Democratic lawmakers have openly stated they will continue to refer to Donald Trump as a “threat to democracy,” even after two assassination attempts against the former president in recent months. This stance comes amid a poll revealing that 28 percent of Democrats believe the country would be better off if Trump were dead.

Fox correspondent Hillary Vaughn confronted multiple Democratic lawmakers in congressional office buildings following the second assassination attempt by Ryan Routh, asking if they would reconsider their rhetoric. Each lawmaker declined, insisting that Trump remains a threat.

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) maintained his position, stating, “No, uh, the fact of the matter is that he is a threat to democracy.”

When asked by Vaughn if the rhetoric should be toned down, progressive Democrat Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) responded, “No, I think that we should be clear that he is a threat to democracy.” She added, “I think [Trump’s] rhetoric should be toned down.”

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) echoed her colleagues, simply stating, “He is a threat. Period. Point-blank.”

Following the second assassination attempt, Trump’s campaign released a list of quotes from prominent Democrats, including President Biden, who has called Trump an “existential threat” and a “threat to our democracy and fundamental freedoms.” Vice President Harris has made similar remarks, and in a 2018 interview, she even joked about killing Trump.
