‘Dangerously Liberal’ Judge Takes Wisconsin Supreme Court Race

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is staying in liberal hands as progressive Judge Susan Crawford won her election on Tuesday.
More than $90 million was spent on what became the most expensive court election in the history of the United States as Crawford defeated conservative candidate Brad Schimel, The New York Times reported.
The conservative candidate was backed by President Donald Trump and SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The Wisconsin Republican Party labeled Crawford as “dangerously liberal,” but that did not dissuade the voters, who came to the polls in large numbers in the state’s urban areas.
Kit was a massive victory for Democrats as they are now expected to challenge Wisconsin’s Congressional maps, as House Minority Leader and New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries hinted in January on a fundraising call where he said her election would be a “chance to put two more House seats in play for 2026.”
“There are gerrymandered congressional lines right now in Wisconsin,” he said. “As soon as possible, we need to be able to revisit that and have fair lines. The only way for that to be even a significant possibility is if you have an enlightened Supreme Court.”
Crawford was criticized for being on that call with Democrat donors as Wisconsin’s Supreme Court elections are supposed to be nonpartisan.
“In an appeal to entice out-of-state billionaires, Susan Crawford said the quiet part out loud: she is begging to be bought and paid for,” Brian Schimming the chairman of the states Republican Party said, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. “Her willingness to use the Court as a market for political favors is not only unethical, it’s disrespectful to the people of Wisconsin.”
And after her victory on Tuesday, Republicans are more concerned as abortion rights and voter ID laws could be among the issues challenged in the state Supreme Court.
“Tonight’s results are disappointing and a blow for human rights and the rule of law. We mourn the lives that will be lost and the women and girls who will be harmed under a Wisconsin Supreme Court with an activist liberal majority,” Women Speak Out PAC Political Communications Director Kelsey Pritchard said. “Republican voters should heed this race as a warning on becoming complacent following the wins last November.”
