During his speech, Biden emphasized Pelosi’s historical significance, stating that she will be remembered as one of the most consequential speakers in American history.
“Nancy Pelosi is going down in history as one of the most consequential speakers in American history,” Biden said. “Not because she’s a woman but because she’s so incredible.”
I am grateful for EMILY’s List and the leadership of pro-choice Democratic women.
To women candidates aspiring to defend our freedoms and our Democracy, I say — we need you!

The president’s attendance at the event came as a surprise, as the White House had initially called a lid for the day. However, the lid was lifted before Biden’s impromptu appearance, allowing him to participate in the ceremonies.
Biden also took the opportunity to express appreciation for Vice President Kamala Harris, who joined him at the gala. “I also want to thank my buddy, Kamala, who I work for up in the White House, for leading on this issue,” Biden said.

EMILY’s List, known for financially supporting pro-choice candidates in elections, reportedly spent approximately $80 million in the 2020 election cycle to back candidates who favored expanded abortion access.
President Biden’s presence at the gala underscores his administration’s alignment with abortion rights advocates and their efforts to prioritize and expand access to abortion services.
