President Biden suggested that he served as vice president during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that former President Obama tasked him with aiding Detroit’s response to the crisis.
“When I was vice president, things were kind of bad during the pandemic,” Biden said at the start of his speech.
“And, what happened was Barack said to me: ‘Go to Detroit – help fix it.’”

Speaking at an NAACP campaign event in Michigan, Biden criticized former President Trump’s handling of the pandemic, which occurred during Trump’s tenure.
Despite the factual discrepancy, Biden continued his speech, discussing his past involvement with civil rights activism and his family’s ties to Detroit.
He also took aim at Trump, accusing “MAGA Republicans” of extreme actions like book-banning.
“All that progress is at risk. Trump is trying to make the country forget just how dark things were… when he was president,” Biden said.
Biden claimed that Trump downplayed the severity of the pandemic and mocked his infamous suggestion of injecting bleach, implying it may have contributed to Trump’s erratic behavior.
“We will never forget him lying about how serious the pandemic was, telling Americans ‘just inject bleach’ – I think that’s what he did. I think that’s why he’s so screwy.”
Biden's weekend:
– Unintentionally clapped for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza
– Used the word "erectionists" instead of "insurrectionists"
– Claimed he was VP during the Covid-19 pandemic— Amber Duke (@ambermarieduke) May 20, 2024
“It’s clear when he lost in 2020, and I mean this sincerely: something snapped in Trump. He just can’t accept he lost… That’s why Jan. 6 happened,” he continued.
