Another Jan 6 Defendant Commits Suicide While Awaiting Trial

A Florida man, charged in connection with the January 6 US Capitol riot, has died by suicide while awaiting trial, as reported in a police document.

“David Kennedy Homol, 55, of Umatilla, Florida, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was found dead on April 18,” police stated.

Homol is the fifth Jan. 6 defendant to take his own life, The Post Millennial reports.

Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., have requested an abatement of prosecution and filed a death notice with US District Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather on May 7, according to the Epoch Times.

Homol was arrested by the FBI on Jan. 10, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, facing felony and misdemeanor charges, per the Justice Department.

Court documents reveal he faced multiple felony offenses, including obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, along with several misdemeanor charges.

Allegedly, Homol assaulted two police officers on the Capitol’s West Plaza with a plastic flagpole on January 6, 2021, prosecutors said.

His brother, Dillon Paul Homol, 25, of Coco Beach, Florida, was sentenced in January to two years probation and ordered to pay a $4,000 fine, according to the DOJ.

“In the 36 months since Jan. 6, 2021,” the DOJ states, “more than 1,265 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 440 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, a felony. The investigation remains ongoing.” The DOJ continues to ask for tips to aid in the arrest and prosecution of those who were at the Capitol on that day.
