A new poll reveals that a strong majority of Americans oppose the use of federal tax dollars to fund transgender medical procedures.

According to a Cygnal poll conducted for the American Principles Project and shared exclusively with The Daily Wire, 66% of Americans believe taxpayer money should not be used for “gender transition” treatments—including surgeries, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones.

The poll also suggests that this issue could significantly sway voters. When informed that a Democratic candidate supports using tax dollars for gender transition procedures, 52% of voters said they would be more likely to vote for the Republican candidate. Initially, Democrats held a narrow one-point edge on the 2026 congressional midterm ballot. But after voters learned of the Democrat’s position on this issue, support shifted a net 14 points toward the Republican candidate.

Notably, even 42% of Democrats and 43% of Kamala Harris voters said public funds should not be used for gender transition procedures. Among swing voters, 66% agreed.

Even 60% of women—who traditionally lean Democratic—said they do not support taxpayer funding for medical “gender transitions.”

The poll also found majorities in opposition among Black and Hispanic Americans, parents, unmarried men and women, as well as voters in both urban and suburban areas.

“This poll is proof of what we’ve known for a long time – the majority of Americans do not want their tax dollars being spent on gender transitions,” Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project, said in a statement to The Daily Wire.

“I am glad that President Trump has already begun to take action on this popular, commonsense policy, but now it’s time for Congress to make the ban on federal funding for gender transitions permanent,” Schilling said.

Gender ideology in schools, the use of transgender drugs and surgeries for minors, and the participation of trans-identifying males in women’s sports and prisons all became significant issues during the election cycle.

President Donald Trump’s most effective campaign ad in the past election cycle highlighted Harris’ support for taxpayer-funded transgender medical services for prisoners.

“Kamala is for they/them. President Trump is for you,” the ad said.
