Kamala Harris Says She Is Ready to Take Over for Biden

Vice President Kamala Harris, during an interview in Jakarta, Indonesia, stated that she is ready to take over as president if Joe Biden is unable to govern due to health concerns related to his age.

Biden, who is currently 80 years old and will turn 81 in November, is the oldest serving president in U.S. history. Should he win re-election in 2024, he would be 82 when sworn in for a potential second term and 86 at its end.

Harris described the possibility of stepping into the presidency as “hypothetical” but emphasized that every vice president understands their responsibility when taking the oath of office.

“Joe Biden is going to be fine, so that is not going to come to fruition,” she said. “But let us also understand that every vice president — every vice president — understands that when they take the oath they must be very clear about the responsibility they may have to take over the job of being president.”

She also dismissed concerns about Biden’s age, stating that she sees him every day and believes he is fully capable of making important decisions on behalf of the American people.

“I see him every day,” Harris said of Biden and his ability. “A substantial amount of time we spend together is in the Oval Office, where I see how his ability to understand issues and weave through complex issues in a way that no one else can to make smart and important decisions on behalf of the American people have played out.”

Despite Harris’s comments, a recent poll showed that a significant majority of Americans, including Democrats, believe that Biden is too old for a second term.

Some Republican candidates have argued that a vote for Biden would effectively be a vote for Harris.

Harris also touched on her former career as a prosecutor and argued that former President Donald Trump should be held accountable for the events of January 6, 2021, and the efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Trump is currently facing several federal indictments related to these events.
