An IRS office in Houston faced unexpected turmoil over the weekend, disrupting services just days before the Tax Day deadline, as a fight broke out among individuals seeking assistance with their taxes.

The incident occurred during the IRS’ Tax Assistance event, drawing “hundreds of people lined up early Saturday morning” to the office premises.

Witnesses recounted scenes of confusion and frustration as the office abruptly shut its doors, citing the altercation between two individuals in line as the catalyst for the closure.

As tensions escalated, a surge of people attempted to enter the building simultaneously, exacerbating the chaotic situation.

“They opened the gates like around 9 or 10 a.m. and I think a couple of people started fighting, so after that, they told everybody to go home,” one witness told Fox.

“All of a sudden everybody went in when they opened the door, and bum rushed and started skipping,” said another visitor at the center.

Despite initial plans to remain open until 4 pm, the office ceased operations “right before 11 am,” leaving many taxpayers disheartened and angry. “I ain’t doing no playing. This is the second month I came out here, and I’m not going to play with the IRS,” expressed one frustrated filer.

According to statements from the IRS, the closure stemmed from overwhelming demand for assistance, exacerbated by the office’s walk-in policy without appointments.

Efforts were made to record the names and contact information of those unable to receive assistance, with assurances of further support throughout the week.
