Vice President Kamala Harris often looks ridiculous when she is interviewed and that does not appear to be changing.
After her interview on Thursday with NBC News which many believed was incoherent, she was mocked by conservatives, including Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
“The interview didn’t go well even with a completely sympathetic host who most of the time is foot soldier for the Democratic party,” he said.
“At one point Harris was asked why the White House Covid strategy wasn’t saving more people from dying,” he said before playing a video of her interview.
“At what point does the administration say the strategy isn’t working?” the interviewer, who has noticed that COVID cases have risen during the administration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris, who promised to get the pandemic under control when they were campaigning in 2020.
Harris then gave an answer that was as ridiculous as the administration’s policies to stop COVID have been.
“It is time for us to be doing what we have been doing and that time is every day. Every day it is time for us to agree that there are things and tools that are available to us to slow this thing down,” she said.
It is tough to imagine the sketch comedy show “Saturday Night Live” doing a better job of lampooning an answer, if they actually ever lampooned Democrats.
But it was not the only ridiculous answer she gave during the interview. When she was asked about the Democrat ticket for 2024 staying the same, she had another answer the raised eyebrows.
“I’m sorry, we are thinking about today,” Harris told NBC’s Craig Melvin after he asked what the ticket would “look like” during the next presidential election cycle.
“Honestly, I know why you are asking the question because this is part of the punditry and the gossip around places like Washington, D.C.,” she continued.
When asked if she and Biden had been talking much about the 2024 race, Harris said she was focused on dealing with current issues. “The American people sent us here to do a job, and right now, there’s a lot of work to be done,” she said. “And that’s my focus, sincerely.”
Then, in addition to attacking Republicans, Harris suggested that Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona were somehow violating their oaths of office to protect and defend the Constitution by opposed the filibuster rule change to pass the misnamed “For the People Act,” a massive voting reform bill Republicans have blasted as an attempt to federalize all elections.
“I will not absolve the 50 Republicans in the United States Senate from responsibility, from upholding one of the most basic tenants of our democracy which is free and fair elections and access to the ballot for all eligible voters,” Harris said.
She was then asked host Craig Melvin what message she has for Sinema and Manchin, but she gave the same response.
“I don’t think anyone should be absolved from the responsibility of preserving and protecting our democracy especially when they took an oath to protect our Constitution,” Harris said.
And Sen. Sinema responded in a speech in the Senate.
“There’s no need for me to restate my longstanding support for the 60-vote threshold to pass legislation. There’s no need for me to restate its role in protecting our country from wild reversals of federal policy,” she said, Fox News reported. “This week’s harried discussions about Senate rules are but a poor substitute for what I believe could have and should have been a thoughtful public debate at any time over the past year.”
“But what is the legislative filibuster, other than a tool that requires new federal policy to be broadly supported by senators, representing the broader cross-section of Americans… Demands to eliminate this threshold from whichever party holds the fleeting majority amount to a group of people separated on two sides of a canyon, shouting that solution to their colleagues,” she said.
