Texas to Continue Migrant Transport to Sanctuary Cities Until Biden Secures the Border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared his commitment to transporting migrants to sanctuary cities until the Biden administration addresses the escalating border crisis.

In a post, Abbott highlighted that Texas had already transported over 102,000 migrants to these cities, emphasizing that overwhelmed border towns should not bear the consequences of the Biden administration’s open border policies, Fox News Digital reports.

This pledge from Abbott comes in the midst of an ongoing feud between the Texas governor and the Biden administration over border enforcement and the state’s authority to defend itself against the influx of migrants overwhelming law enforcement and immigration officials.

The conflict dates back to 2021 when Texas initiated Operation Lone Star to allocate additional resources to the border.

The Biden administration has taken legal action against Texas, challenging an anti-illegal immigration law that empowers state and local law enforcement to arrest illegal immigrants.

Disputes have also arisen over the state’s installation of buoys in the Rio Grande, with the administration asserting that immigration enforcement is a federal responsibility, and Texas is encroaching on that domain.

Recently, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a temporary overturn of a lower court’s injunction preventing the federal government from removing razor fencing installed by Texas along the border near Eagle Pass.

Abbott, following the court’s decision, asserted his constitutional authority to defend Texas against what he termed an “invasion,” accusing the executive branch of failing to enforce federal immigration laws.

Former President Donald Trump expressed support for Abbott, urging states to deploy their National Guards to the border and promising collaboration if re-elected in 2025.

Abbott has garnered support from over two dozen Republican states, while some Democrats have urged the Biden administration to take control of the National Guard in response to the ongoing dispute.
