Slain Chicago Police Officer's Family Tells Mayor to Not Attend Funeral

The mayor of Chicago was notably absent from the funeral of a fallen police officer after the family of the deceased expressed their disapproval, as per reports.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, originally slated to attend Officer Luis Huesca’s funeral, had his schedule later revised to indicate his absence, ultimately skipping the event entirely.

Reportedly, family members of Huesca conveyed to the mayor’s office that his presence at the funeral was unwelcome, according to local sources.

Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza took to social media, stating that she and Rep. Angelica Guerrero Cuellar had personally relayed the family’s wishes to Mayor Johnson, urging him to respect their decision.

While no explicit reason was provided for the exclusion of the mayor, tensions between the police department and the mayor’s office regarding crime policies are believed to have played a role.

Fox News Digital reached out to Johnson’s office for comment but received no response.

Officer Luis M. Huesca, who tragically lost his life responding to a carjacking incident while off-duty, was honored in his funeral at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel. The funeral drew attendance from police, firefighters, and other mourners, paying respects to the fallen officer.
