Progressive Los Angeles DA's Top Adviser Charged With 11 Felonies: Report

The California Attorney General’s Office has filed 11 felony charges against a top adviser to Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon, backed by George Soros.

Assistant District Attorney Diana Teran, responsible for overseeing critical cases such as police misconduct and public corruption, now faces the heat of 11 felony counts related to the unauthorized use of confidential police records, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Allegedly, Teran misused confidential police data obtained during her tenure at the LA County Sheriff’s Department in 2018, a transgression that resurfaced when she transitioned to Gascon’s office three years later, according to AG Rob Bonta’s press release.

“No one is above the law,” said Bonta in a press release. “Public officials are called to serve the people of the State of California with integrity and honesty. At the California Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the people of California and hold those who break the law accountable.”

The charges accuse Teran of inappropriately accessing records involving 11 sheriff’s deputies, a revelation that prompted Bonta to emphasize accountability, stating, “No one is above the law.”

Prior to her involvement in law enforcement oversight, Teran held several positions within the LA County legal system, including a stint as a deputy district attorney and roles in the Office of Inspector General and the Public Defender’s office.

Her ascent to Gascon’s administration in 2021 marked her oversight of the Justice System Integrity Division, tasked with prosecuting misconduct by law enforcement and attorneys.

However, Sheriff Alex Villanueva raised alarms about Teran’s actions, alleging a “massive data breach” that prompted him to involve the FBI.

Gascon’s office, known for its progressive stance, has yet to comment on the allegations, adding a layer of complexity to Gascon’s tenure, already under scrutiny for his criminal justice reform policies.
