White House Says Child Sex Changes Are "Something for a Child and Their Parents to Decide"

During a White House press conference, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about President Biden’s position on medicalized gender transitions for minors.

When questioned on at what age these therapies and surgeries are appropriate, Jean-Pierre stated, “That’s something for a child and their parents to decide. It’s not something that we believe should be decided by legislators, so I’ll leave it there.”

One reporter asked about Indiana’s recent ban on puberty blockers, hormone therapies, and gender transition surgeries for minors.

Jean-Pierre did not comment on this specific law but noted that “This is a president that has been committed to this community and has been committed to our kids in the trans community, to trans kids, and he’s going to continue to fight for them.” S

he also expressed concern over the record number of bills filed in state houses, with a significant number of them protecting youth from irreversible surgeries.

Jean-Pierre further added that the transgender community is “under attack” by these bills, stating, “It is shameful, and it is unacceptable.”
